Most of us have fond memories of bicycling as a kid--getting our first bike, learning to ride, pedaling as fast as we could down a hill, or delivering newspapers at 6 in the morning. Now as a full grown adult, if you want to recall those fun memories and get the joy back in biking, go out and rent an ebike. Or better yet, make the commitment to buy one to get outside, enjoy nature, and get some exercise. That's what we did a few months ago!
After researching electric bikes ad nauseam, we found that it was difficult to find them at our local bike shops so we could take them on a test ride. We needed a folding bike that could go in the back of the SUV when it was attached to Gypsy, our tear-drop camper. Since we are two senior women, we needed to find a relatively light-weight bike that we could fold and LIFT. We finally settled on Magnum ebikes and found two in a bike shop in Sarasota a 3-1/2 hour drive away.
We have regular bikes too but we've been enjoying the ebikes for their fun-factor AND exercise. These are pedal-assist type bikes so you must pedal; it's nice on a long trip or going up a hill to have some assistance!
On New Year's day, we loaded the bikes and drove to Sebastian Inlet State Park. A picnic lunch and a sun-filled day set the stage for a magnificent afternoon
of being kids again. On the way back to the car we had to crank up the speed so that we'd make it back before dark. At a speed of about 18 mph, we felt like we had to get home before dinner or we'd be in trouble. Remember those days?
Awesome adventure! Look forward to the next one!
